All this is made possible by Pirelli’s deep commitment to Research and Development, based on a model of total “Open Innovation”.
Pirelli headquarters and the main R&D Centers are located in Milan and from here innovation branches out globally, that's why we decided to return part of the production to Lombardy where Pirelli was founded 150 years ago in Milan.
Matteo Barbieri, Head of Cycling DivisionPirelli decided to return part of the production to Lombardy, where Pirelli was founded 150 years ago, and where Pirelli's headquarter and the main R&D centers are located. Bollate plant was reconverted in 2020, starting its new production in 2022, becoming the only factory to produce “Made in Italy” bike tyres on an industrial scale.
The strength of Pirelli lies in its people, in fact one of the main reasons for Pirelli to invest in Lombardy Bollate Plant was due to the high level of practical and theoretical expertise of its employees. Pirelli maintained the occupational level, investing a considerable sum in upskilling and reskilling of the entire population of Bollate, from car tyres to bicycle tyres production.
Pirelli in Bollate has in place several collaborations with premium bicycle manufacturers in Italy and in Europe, thus contributing to the whole industry’s wealth and growth from Lombardy.
