The Lombardy Region, with Invest in Lombardy, took part in the national appointment "Selecting Italy" promoted by the Conference of Regions in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and held in Trieste on the 24th and 25th January 2023.
Subject of the meeting: the importance and the will of the Regions to continue improving the attraction of foreign investments in the country. In fact, in the last 10 years the participation of foreign companies in our economy has seen an increased in employment, turnover and added value, demonstrating a positive contribution in terms of productivity, profit, salaries and R&D expenditure.
The participating regions coordinated the thematic discussions for defining the 4 strategic areas of foreign direct investment attraction: investment impact measurement and evaluation, territorial ecosystem, incentives ecosystem and simplification, skills and competencies of the investment attraction teams.
Lombardy and Emilia Romagna coordinated the working group of the territorial ecosystem, animated by the testimony of representatives of local authorities, business associations, universities, innovation districts, technopoles, and companies.
Talents, innovation, agreements, public-private partnerships, incentives and simplification are among the most critical challenges raised during the round table discussion on territorial ecosystem. For the Lombardy system the work table was attended, among others, by the representatives of Arexpo s.p.a., Sanofi Italia and othe University of Pavia, the Municipality of Bellano, the Province of Mantua, and the Chamber System with Promos Italy. The working tables, attended by policy makers and enterprises, allowed the sharing of best practices and development proposals which have then been brought to the attention of participants in the plenary session on January 25th.
An important insight was dedicated to opportunities for strengthening the co-investment level as part of transatlantic cooperation, through an alliance between the Conference of Regions and the Transatlantic Investment Committee.
