On Friday, November 24, President Fontana highlighted the importance of the Lombardy Region on the global stage in his opening speech, expressing the intention to enhance its international role. Lombardy is comparable to an average European state in various aspects (size, per capita GDP, exports, etc.) and is characterized by numerous excellences in various fields: economy, education, health, research, innovation, art, and culture. Continuing his speech, Fontana emphasizes the centrality of sustainability in regional policies, with an innovative approach that integrates environmental, social, and economic aspects. In this regard, the concept of "Smartland" is mentioned to represent a connected Lombardy in all its areas.
Europe is considered the first international frontier, and Lombardy is committed to playing an active role in collaboration with international networks and associations of regions.
In this scenario, the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics will be an unprecedented opportunity for the growth and development of Lombardy, with the aim of presenting the region's excellence, promoting its locations, and investing in innovation and experimentation.
Throughout the various interventions, the image of a region whose model is capable of developing strategies to grow its businesses in foreign markets, internationalizing its products, emerged. As demonstrated by the "Export 2023" call, aimed at facilitating qualified support to help companies approach new markets.
Furthermore, Lombardy is a region whose industrial sector stands out for "speed and opportunity," and whose capital becomes the "economic engine of the entire country."
